Isle of Mull Cheese, Wonderful raw milk cheddar
Isle of Mull Cheese, Wonderful raw milk cheddar
Isle of Mull cheese is a gorgeous rich Scottish cheddar from the lovely Isle of Mull, near Tobermory. Because the farm and, mostly, Friesian cows are kept on the island, the feed used is regularly supplemented by the local Tobermory distillery's discarded fermented grain, resulting in the very distinctive taste of the Isle of Mull cheese. Fruity and full of lovely rounded flavour, this is a gorgeous tasty cheddar. Lighter in colour than some, depending on the time of year its made, as no dyes are used and during the winter the hay fed cows produce a naturally lighter coloured cheese. It's unpasteurised and very traditionally made, so sometimes (if you're lucky) you'll get a blue vein coming through. Always a sign of a very traditionally made cheese!
